Laser Treatment, Right Here in Our Offices

Laser procedures can play an important role in managing certain eye conditions and restoring clearer vision. Grove Eye Care provides several laser treatments in-office, including YAG capsulotomy, Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT), and YAG peripheral iridotomy.

These outpatient procedures use targeted laser energy to address specific problems inside the eye, often with little to no downtime. Your optometrist will evaluate your eyes, discuss your treatment options, and help determine whether laser treatment is appropriate for your condition.

What Happens During a Laser Eye Treatment?

Your experience will depend on the procedure you are having. Before treatment, your optometrist will examine your eyes and explain what to expect, including any preparation or post-treatment care.

Our laser procedures are performed on an outpatient basis, so you can return home after your appointment. Some treatments may require temporary eye drops or other post-procedure care to manage pressure and inflammation.

Our Laser Eye Procedures

YAG Capsulotomy

YAG capsulotomy treats posterior capsule opacification, a film that sometimes develops on the implant after cataract surgery. This clouding can cause symptoms similar to those experienced with cataracts, including blurred or hazy vision.

The procedure uses invisible pulses of laser energy to remove the cloudy tissue and restore a clearer visual pathway.

  • Safe and effective outpatient procedure
  • Typically performed only once per eye
  • Painless for most patients
  • Your eyes will be dilated during the procedure
  • Little to no downtime afterward
  • Normal activities can generally resume once the effects of dilation wear off
  • Vision may take a couple of days to become as clear as possible
  • A short course of prescription eye drops helps manage pressure and inflammation

Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT)

Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty is used to treat certain types of glaucoma, including Primary Open Angle Glaucoma.  For some patients, SLT may be used instead of daily glaucoma drops. It can also be performed alongside medication when additional pressure control is needed.

SLT uses low-energy laser treatment to improve the eye’s drainage area, helping fluid drain more effectively and lowering intraocular pressure.

  • Safe and effective outpatient procedure
  • Little to no downtime
  • Most patients experience little to no pain
  • Temporary minor discomfort may occur during the procedure and for a day or two afterward
  • Post-procedure drops and NSAIDs can help manage discomfort
  • A short course of prescription drops helps manage pressure and inflammation
  • The effects can last up to 5 years for many patients, with some experiencing longer-lasting results

YAG Peripheral Iridotomy

YAG peripheral iridotomy is a laser procedure used to treat angle-closure glaucoma. The treatment creates a small opening in the iris, allowing fluid to flow more normally from behind the iris to the front of the eye.

  • Safe and effective outpatient procedure
  • Little to no downtime
  • A short course of prescription drops helps manage pressure and inflammation
  • Temporary light sensitivity may occur afterward
  • Arrange for someone to drive you home following the procedure

Our laser procedures typically involve little to no downtime. After YAG capsulotomy, vision may take a couple of days to become as clear as possible. Patients undergoing YAG peripheral iridotomy should arrange for a driver because temporary light sensitivity may occur.
